This is my lesson for my arrangement of Star Treatment from the Arctic Monkeys Tranquility base Hotel & Casino album. Today we are going to learn how to play Star Treatment by the Arctic Monkeys on the ukulele. On the back of arranging the album earlier this week. I wanted to do a lesson on one of the most beautiful songs on the album. That opening chord sequence is something of beauty.
Here is my version of the full album a ukulele.
While this is a fairly simple sounding arrangement we are using various different techniques to make it work. Chords, riffs, fingerpicking and vibrato are all used so we can get as close to the original song as possible.
The opening chords are D#Maj7, F#Maj G#Min and A#Maj7. They sound complicated but seriously they are very simple and all only require 3 fingers for each chord. If you want to simplify things. You can just play the 2nd and 1st fret and the last 3 chords.
Using vibrato can add lots of depth to your playing. We are shaking the strings in a very subtle way so the small changes in pitch create a kind of wah effect.
You need to press your fingers really hard onto the fretboard and shake your hand or fingers. Try not to bend the strings too much, just a tiny amount.
If you are struggling with learning it just from the TABs, I have put together a video lesson that might make it easier for you.
I hope this article had some use for you. If you would like to learn more Arctic Monkeys songs on the uke I also did video lessons for Do I Wanna Know/Mad Sounds and Teddy Picker on my YouTube channel. You can also find tabs for most of the AM albums on my tabs page too.
LEARN SOMETHING ELSE?
Matt Healy and co could quite easily have created another record of generic pop hits but they haven’t. Instead,
I would definitely consider myself a new fan of John Mayer. I had heard his name mentioned and I
