My introduction to this song was not the Lynyrd Skynyrd version. I first heard it on a CD that Kerrang! magazine put together called High Voltage – A Brief History of Rock. Loads of bands did cover versions of some classic rock tunes. One of them happened to be Simple Man performed by Deftones. The opening chord picking melted my heart, not to mention the deadly guitar solo at the end. Let’s learn to play it on the ukulele.
What Are We Learning To Play?
Below is a video of what you will be able to play by the end of this post.
I’m using a low G for this song but you can easily get away with a high G too. The chords can be challenging as we are barring for them all. The key is to separate the chord changes from the picking and practice them both on their own. The last chord is an absolute bugger to get to, you WILL need to practise it a lot.
