01 What this covers
This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use eatmyuke.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. It applies to visitors, people who create a free account, newsletter subscribers, and anyone who contacts us. Everything on the site is free — we don’t take card payments or store any payment details.
02 The data we collect
You give us:
- Account details — your name, email address, username and password (passwords are stored encrypted; we never see them).
- Newsletter sign-up — your email address (and name, if given) when you subscribe.
- Course activity — which lessons you’ve completed and your progress.
- Comments & messages — anything you post in comments or send us by email or a contact form.
We collect automatically:
- Usage & device data — IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and how you interact with the site, via analytics tools (see cookies below).
- Marketing attribution — how you arrived at the site (e.g. which link or campaign), via Sourcebuster.
- Server logs — standard technical logs kept by our host for security and troubleshooting.
We do not intentionally collect special-category data (health, religion, etc.) or knowingly collect data from children under 13.
03 Why we use it, and our legal basis
For non-essential cookies (analytics and marketing) we rely on your consent.
04 Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the site, each acting under contract and only as needed:
- SiteGround — website hosting.
- Bunny.net (Bunny CDN / Stream) — hosts and delivers most of our lesson videos and site assets (EU-based).
- YouTube (Google) — hosts some embedded videos; sets its own cookies when you play one.
- Amazon Web Services (SES) — delivers our emails (welcome, password resets, newsletter).
- FluentCRM — our email/newsletter and contact management (runs on our own hosting).
- Google Analytics 4 & Tag Manager — website analytics.
- Automattic / Jetpack — site statistics, performance and security features.
- Buy Me a Coffee — if you support us with a donation, your payment is handled by Buy Me a Coffee; we never see your card details.
- Sourcebuster — marketing attribution (runs on-site).
We may also disclose data where legally required, or to a buyer if the business is ever sold.
05 International transfers
Some providers above (Google, Amazon, Automattic, Buy Me a Coffee) are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the UK. Where that happens, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK’s adequacy regulations or the providers’ standard contractual clauses. Our main video host, Bunny.net, is EU-based.
06 Cookies
- Strictly necessary — needed for the site to work: logging in, your account/session, security.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 and Jetpack, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- Marketing / attribution — Sourcebuster records how you found us. Clicking an Amazon affiliate link may also set Amazon’s cookies.
- Video — Bunny.net and YouTube may set cookies when you play a video.
You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some may affect how the site works.
07 Affiliate links
Some pages contain Amazon affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and Amazon may set cookies to track that referral. Purchases and any data you give Amazon are governed by Amazon’s own privacy policy, not ours.
08 How long we keep it
- Account data — while your account is open; delete your account and we remove it (some may persist briefly in backups).
- Newsletter data — until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics data — per Google Analytics’ retention settings.
- Support emails — only as long as needed to help you and keep a reasonable record.
09 Keeping your data secure
Your account is protected by your own password. We store data on secure servers and use technical and organisational measures to protect it. If you suspect any misuse of your data, email us immediately at support@eatmyuke.com.
10 Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to: access a copy of your data; have it corrected; have it erased; restrict or object to how we use it; data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time (for anything we do on the basis of consent, like marketing).
To exercise any of these, email support@eatmyuke.com. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data or a request, you can complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
11 Links to other sites
The site links to other websites, including our Buy Me a Coffee page, our social media, and Amazon affiliate links. We’re not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other sites — please check their own policies.
12 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes are posted here with a new “last updated” date. This policy is governed by the law of England and Wales.
