Turn your practice into progress. This trainer gradually increases tempo.

Using the metronome

Get started in 4 steps

  1. Set your tempo range — drag the cyan handle to a slow start tempo and the lime handle to your target.
  2. Choose the climb — set how many BPM it speeds up, and how many bars play between each bump.
  3. Press play — it counts you in, then gradually increases the tempo as you play along.
  4. Beat your best — keep going until your fingers can't keep up, note the BPM, and try to beat it next time.

How to use this tool

The metronome does two jobs at once: it keeps steady time, and it can gradually speed up as you practise so you build pace without noticing. Here's what each control does.

Speed Trainer / Metronome tabs
Switch mode at the top: Speed Trainer gradually climbs the tempo as you practise; Metronome holds one steady tempo like a normal metronome. The Speed Trainer and Metronome mode tabs at the top of the tool
Tempo range (the two sliders)
Drag the cyan handle to your start tempo and the lime handle to your target. Start slow — around 70–80 BPM — and pick a goal you can't quite hit yet.The metronome start, current and end BPM displays with the two tempo sliders
Increase by X BPM every Y bars
This is the ukulele-metronome part. It nudges the tempo up in small steps so the change is barely noticeable. The default (+5 BPM every 4 bars) works well; smaller steps make a gentler climb. The increase-by-BPM and bars-per-step controls
Beat blocks
Each block is one bar, and the segments light up on every beat so you can see where you are. When a block turns red, a tempo bump is coming. The beat blocks that light up on each beat
Drop Some Bass?
Toggle this on to add a bass note under each bar — great for practising chord changes in key. Tap a bar's letter to change the note. The Drop Some Bass toggle
Play & Duration
Hit play and it counts you in, then runs. The Duration timer shows how long the full climb from your start tempo to your target will take. The play button and the duration timer
Settings (the gear icon)
Change the sound (click, hi-hat or drum beat), pick a time signature (2/4, 3/4, 4/4 or 7/8), and choose a bass instrument (warm, piano or upright). The metronome settings panel: sound, time signature and bass instrument

What is a ukulele metronome & speed trainer?

A metronome keeps a steady beat so you practise in time. A speed trainer is a metronome that gradually raises the tempo as you play — the proven way to build finger speed: start slow, climb in tiny steps, and let muscle memory catch up. This tool does both, right in your browser, with no app to install.

How to practise ukulele faster with it

Pick one thing — a riff, a fingerpicking pattern, or a tricky chord change — set a slow start and an ambitious target, and let the tempo climb. Stop when it falls apart, note the BPM you reached, and aim to beat that next time. A few minutes a day adds up fast. For the full method with worked examples, see how to increase your speed on the ukulele.

Metronome FAQ

Is this a ukulele metronome?

Yes — it’s a free online metronome set up for ukulele practice, with click, hi-hat and full drum-beat sounds and 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 and 7/8 time signatures.

What is a speed trainer or accelerating metronome?

A metronome that automatically raises the tempo as you play, so you build speed gradually instead of jumping straight to full pace. It’s the proven way to get faster.

Can I use it as a normal, steady metronome?

Yes. Tap the Metronome tab at the top of the tool — it holds a single steady tempo instead of climbing.

Does it work for guitar or other instruments?

Yes — it’s just a metronome, so it works for any instrument. The sounds and presets are chosen with ukulele practice in mind.

Do I need to download an app?

No. It runs right in your browser on phone or desktop, completely free.

What tempo should I start at?

Slower than feels natural — around 70–80 BPM for most things — then let it climb to a target you can’t quite play cleanly yet.
