Fleetwood Mac – Rumours

My introduction to Fleetwood Mac came from an unlikely source. Remember in Forrest Gump just after his mum passes away and he’s sat on the porch contemplating life. He gets up and for no particular reason he decides to go for a little run, he runs out of Mississippi and across Alabama until he gets to the ocean. The lady on the bench is enthralled and asks him “So, you just raaaaan?”. He says yeah and at that moment the most amazing guitar palm muting riff starts, incomes some chords on an acoustic guitar and the words “loving you…isn’t the right thing to do”. I was 8 or 9 at the time and the sense of adventure that this song created resonating with me so much. I would rewind the VHS just to listen to it. Fast forward a few years and I’m watching the Christmas movie Jack Frost, midway through the movie I hear that raspy female vocal that I heard on Forrest Gump. It’s Fleetwood Mac again with landslide. I asked my mam if she knew them and she just so happened to have this cream coloured album with women and a man on the front. I listened to it and immediately fell in love, I felt like I knew heaps of the songs already so i assumed it was greatest hits album. I was wrong, its just one of the greatest studio albums ever recorded.

This video is part of my Top 50 Albums on a ukulele project, if you enjoyed it why not check out some other classic albums that I arranged for ukulele like Nirvana – Nevermind or Led Zeppelin – Four. Or Some albums that took great inspiration from Fleetwood Mac like Bon Iver and Damien Rice.

A very delicate finger picking pattern that can be tricky. My advice it to listen carefully to the song and get yourself into the groove. This one is going to take some time.
