Take Me Out, This Fire, Micheal

Take Me Out, This Fire, Micheal

Franz Ferdinand are one of the most charming indie bands to emerge from the mid-2000s. Their debut is untouchable in terms of quality. Top-notch instrumentation, the riffs are super and every single song is irresistibly catchy. Let’s learn to play some of them on the ukulele.

Today we are learning to play Take Me Out, Michael and This Fire. The video below will you give you an idea of how they are supposed to sound.

This video is part of a project I’m working on. I’m learning to play my favourite albums on a ukulele. If you enjoyed it why not check out some other classic albums that I arranged. Like The Strokes or Muse.

Take Me Out

The opening chords for this song are straight stabbed with a sneaky up and down at the end. I’m using a low g for this song. If you have a normal G you can play the main riff on the 10th and 12th frets.
A |-7---7---7---7-7---7-7--|-------------------------------------------------|
E |-4---4---4---4-4---4-4--|-3---------------x3--2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2---------|
C |-4---4---4---4-4---4-4--|---4--4p2---2-4--------------------------2-2-2-2-|
G |-4---4---4---4-4---4-4--|----------4--------------------------------------|

A |-10------------------10------------------10--------------------------| E |-----12--10-10-12--------12--10-10-12--------12------------10--10-12-| C |---------------------------------------------------------------------| G |---------------------------------------------------------------------|

This Fire

To give this song a more interesting rhythm. You can play muted notes between each chord. All you need to do is lift up your fretting fingers slightly (so they are hovering over the fretboard). Then pluck the strings.

A |-------------------5-5-|-------------------7-7-|--------------------------|
E |-1-1---3-3---5-5---5-5-|-3-3---5-5---6-6---6-6-|--------------------------|
C |-2-2---4-4---5-5-------|-2-2---5-5---7-7---7-7-|--0-2---0-0-2---0-2-0--x2-|
G |-----------------------|-----------------------|--------------------------|

This riff is rather nippy so it can be a bit of a finger work out. We are also using the palm muting technique. This guide will get you to grips with it.

A |---------------------------------|---------------------------------|
E |-2-2-2-4-4-4-5-5-2-2-2-4-4-4-5-5-|---------------------------------|
