The Clash – London Calling

One of my first jobs was in a breezeblock factory. It was 12-hour shifts, 4 pm – 4 am. My main task was to man a machine that stacks the blocks, so I would order the blocks in the right pattern and move them onto the pallet and so forth. It was very very boring as I was alone for 99% shift. However, i loved the job as I was allowed to wear headphones while working. I would look forward to listening to new albums as I could zone out and fully take them in. They wouldn’t be on in the background, they would be at the forefront of my mind. This is where I discovered The Clash. I had known the odd song and liked it but that’s as far as it went. I loaded it onto my iPod, clocked into work and hit play…

…wow. A melting pot of punk attitude, soulful songs, reggae skank and rock n roll over 19 tracks. It was truly a musical experience. I listened to it in full again straight away. I won’t ever forget those nights. A lot of these top 50 albums were realised during that job.

This video is part of a project I’m working on. I’m learning to play my favourite albums on a ukulele. If you enjoyed it why not check out some other classic albums that I arranged like Green Day or David Bowie.
