The Darkness – I Believe In A Thing Called Love

I Believe In A Thing Called Love

The Darkness were a complete breath a fresh air back in the early 00s. Glam rock was back and ready to shake you up! Needless to say The Darkness ukulele style is a must. Lets learn to play I Believe In A Thing Called Love on the uke.

Today we are learning to play the opening riff and the video below is an example of what you will be able to play.

This riff is mainly a chord progression with a little lick at the end. On the original song, Justin Hawkins plays simple power chords. For the ukulele version, we are playing fuller chords.

They are all basic chords and if you have been playing the ukulele for a while, they shouldn’t give you any issues.

If one of them will give you a problem, that’s going to be the opening chord. It’s a DMaj barre chord. This means you use your first finger to cover more than one fret on the neck. For this one, we are covering all the 2nd fret and then using our pinky on the 5th fret of the A string.

For the final 4 chords (F Maj). You want to do a triple strum for the first 3. Then end on a down strum to prepare yourself for the final lick.

Use your thumb to pluck the notes for the riff.
