It’s safe to say Jimmy Eat World were one of my first “Favourite” bands. I mean, I grew up listening to and loved Iron Maiden, Queen and ABBA. But, you know those bands? Those ones that you first start discovering when you’re a teenager and nobody but you seems to like them? Not in a hipster way, but that excitement of discovering new music for the first time. Coupled with the fact that it’s only you that knows about this piece of treasure.
That’s the way I felt when I heard “Salt Sweet Sugar” on late night Kerrang back in the day. Pounding drums, fast guitar solos and enough energy to power a space shuttle… I needed more. Of course, this was 2001, not only did I not have the Internet, I was a kid and I was skint. So I asked my Nana and Grandad to get it for me for Christmas. Packed full of catchy rock songs and delicate ballads, it is slowly becoming part of musical history. Jimmy Eat World helped craft the emo genre before it was hijacked and ruined by the powers that be who smelt the money. A fantastic band and defiantly one of my favourite albums of all time.
What Are We Learning To Play?
Below is a video of what you will be able to play by the end of this post.Â
Ukulele Tabs
The Middle has a really catchy palm-muted intro that sounds great on the ukulele. Use the palm of your hand and gently press onto the strings near the bridge of the uke. This is going to dampen the sound and give you the tone you need to play this song.
