Elton John – Tiny Dancer

Tiny Dancer

Easily one of the most recognisable piano intros and arguably one of the best songs to come out of the 70s. I had probably heard it before in the background somewhere, but this song really touched me when I saw it on the Almost Famous film. There’s a scene where the band is cruising through the American south on a tour bus and they have the most atmospheric sing along to this song. Let’s learn to play Tiny Dancer on the ukulele

What Are We Learning To Play?

Below is a video of what you will be able to play by the end of this post.

Ukulele Tabs

Although it looks like a lot is going on in the tabs, there’s nothing super taxing to play. You can play it at a laid back pace and it still sounds great.

You want to start by using your ring finger to hit that 7th fret on the A string. That’s going to leave your first finger free to be ready to barre the bottom three strings on the 5th fret. Getting to the next chord is possibly what’s going to cause a little frustration if you are new to changing chords. Use your first finger on the 1st fret of the E string, middle finger on the 2nd fret of the G and lastly, your pinky on the 3rd of the A string. That puts your fingers in the correct position to strum the chord and then fingerpick the rest of the notes.

A |-------7--5----3-----------0h3-|-------7--5----3-----------0h3-|
E |-----0----5----1-------1-------|-----0----5----1-------1-------|
C |---0------5----0-----0---------|---0------5----0-----0---------|
G |-0-------------2--2------------|-0-------------2--2------------|
