He’s a native of Hawaii so naturally, Jack Johnson and the ukulele was bound to be a good combination. Today we are learning to play Belle from his In Between Dreams album.
This song is aimed at beginner players who are looking to advance their playing on the ukulele. We are using fingerpicking and sometimes plucking 3 strings at once. Don’t let that frighten you though. With a little bit of practise you can nail this in no time.

What Are We Learning To Play?

Check out this video of me playing the song so you can get to grips with what you are going to learn.

Jack Johnson Ukulele Tabs

If you are unfamiliar with how to read ukulele tabs. This guide will tell you everything you need to know.

The driving force behind this song is the open notes on the G string. It’s going to give it momentum and make it sound rounded and full. Bear that in mind when you are playing it, keep that thumb moving!

Along with the thumb, we will be using the first and middle fingers to pluck the other notes. Let’s assign a finger to each string. The thumb will be playing everything on the G and C. Then the first and middle will be playing the E and A.

A |---2------2-----2----2-------|----1------1-----1----1-------|
E |---2------2-----0------0---0-|----1------1-----0------0---0-|
C |---2------2-----2--2-----2---|----2------2-----2--2-----2---|
G |-0----0-0-----0--------------|--0----0-0-----0--------------|

A |---2------2-----2----2-------|----5------5----6----6----|
E |---2------2-----0------0---0-|----5------5----5----5----|
C |---2------2-----2--2-----2---|--6-6--6-6-6--7-7--7-7----|
G |-0----0-0-----0--------------|--------------------------|

This isn’t the first time I have arranged Jack Johnson on the ukulele. A few years ago I took a trip to New Zealand and filmed a sunset video on the beach. I arranged his In Between Dreams album and you check that out below.
