Do you want to give county and folk hero Johnny Cash the ukulele treatment? Today we are learning to play the foot-stomper I Walk The Line.
My first introduction to Johnny Cash was his cover of Hurt by Nice Inch Nails. It was the early 00s and around the time I seriously started to consume music. I soon realized I knew so many of his songs. Folsom Prison Blues and Ring Of Fire were both played religiously in my house as a kid. I just didn’t know who it was!
Anyway, enough of me rambling, let’s learn to play a new song.
What Are We Learning To Play?
Below is a video of what you will be able to play by the end of this post.
This is that famous opening guitar riff before he comes in with the first vocal line “I keep a close watch on this heart of mine”.
He plays it fast on the studio recording. I would recommend slowing it down somewhat and building up to that speed. I put together a guide that is guaranteed to help you increase your speed on the ukulele. You will be flying up and down the fretboard in time if you follow it correctly.
