This song was written as an ode to a women Eric Clapton was in love with, Pattie Boyd. Unfortunately for him, she was married to George Harrison. Clapton secretly met with Boyd one afternoon in her flat and played the song for her off of his tape machine. Pattie said that it was “the most powerful, moving song I had ever heard”. Years later, the pair were married.
