This is truly one of my favourite songs of all time. It’s got that really lovely jangly guitar song that I just can’t get enough of. I have recently arranged the Foo Fighters Wasted Light album. I’m now thinking i ought to re-visit some of their older songs and give them a go on the ukulele too. For now though, lets learn to play Everlong on the 4 string..
What Are We Learning To Play?
Below is a video of what you will be able to play by the end of this post.
Theres a lot going on here so il try to break it down as much as possible. Im using a low G for this piece but i tried it on a ukulele with high G too. Although its missing the deep bass notes, it still kinda works. So let’s first get our plucking fingers correctly placed. Use your thumb for anything played on the C and G string. Then your first finger and middle finger for everything played on the E and A string, respectively.
For the first chord we need to barring the 2nd fret across all the bottom three strings. Then use your ring finger on the 4th of the A. The next chord is bit of a finger twister. Use your first finger on the 2nd fret of the E, middle finger of the 4th of the G and lastly your ring finger on the 4th fret of the A. Its worth spending time practising changing between them two chords with doing any finger picking. The third chord is the easiest of the bunch. Just use your first finger on the 2nd fret of the C. Then we are going back to that tricky finger twisting chord.
The rest of the arrangement is pretty straight forward, just follow along to my video and it will all make sense.
