Albums on a ukulele makes it return and I start with easily the requested album of the last series. Twenty-One Pilots – Vessel. Im quite a new fan to tøp considering how long they have actually been a band. I fell in love with the blurry face album and after making my way through their discography, […]

My introduction to Simon & Garfunkel was an unconventional one. It was during the movie “Old School” and Will Ferrell’s character gets a horse tranquillizer to the neck and eventually falls into the swimming pool. As he’s drowning the most beautiful song starts to play….”Hello darkness my old friend”. The harmonies are breathtaking. I instantly

This week it’s time for metal masters Metallica and their Master Of Puppets album. I was joined on this one by my buddy Dyl, we play together in our band Bud Sugar. He’s a metalhead at heart so I knew I needed to draft him in for this one! Another band that took over my
This album totally blew me away, Amy had one hell of a voice, one of them voices that made me think of smoky, dimly lit clubs, and some of the greatest female singers of years gone by. I was devastated when i heard of her passing, Imagine what might have happened if she was allowed
I remember been instantly awed by these guys after seeing their live set at Glastonbury on tv. They had this beautiful simplicity to them. Haunting vocals and amazing production by Jamie XX. A Worthy addition to my top 50 project! Not sure how to read these tabs? Take my FREE 15-minute course and get up
Alt-J are one of those bands that it’s really hard to place into a genre. I was immediately drawn to Joe Newman’s vocal style, it reminded me heaps of Joanna Newsome which I found ironic given their similar names. An Awesome Wave is a unique and captivating album that has no dull moments. If you
Man, what a debut album. I first discovered these guys while they were on tour with Marsicans in the UK. I didn’t get a chance to check out their music before the show but boy was I blown away. They are everything you could ever want in a rock band. Riffs and harmonies in abundance
A creative milestone in popular music, this recording must surely be an essential purchase. The most important British group? The songs speak for themselves. It is very hard to see how this cannot be the regarded as the best albums ever released. How great would it be to come across it for the first time

I always admired The Cribs as they are one of them bands that truly embraced their shambolic side. I loved Hey Scenesters and Mirror Kissers and would always welcome them when they came on in the Indie club night. This was during a time when Indie ruled and every man and his dog was trying

Saddened to hear the news of Gregg Allman passing away. They had that sound that oozed adventure. I always loved Ramblin Man as a kid and fell it love it again when it was featured on Guitar Hero. I decided to learn that intro on ukulele and beefed it up with some harmonies. RIP man. View this
I first discovered pearl when I saw the video for Evenflow on Kerrang back in the day. Kerrang TV for me was the hub of discovering new music as a 12-year-old. This was the early 00s so i couldn’t jump on YouTube or Spotify and dig deep into their discography. I had to do it […]
A little jam of some of my favourite songs of the new 1975 album. Matt Healy and co have really gone to town on this one and I love it. Had to get out in the sunshine and hit the strings. This video is part of a project I’m working on. I’m learning to play my favourite
This was one of those songs that I hated when it came out. Mainly because my big sister used to play it repeatedly and of course she’s my big sister so anything she did was annoying to me at that age haha. But as I grew older I began to appreciate it a whole lot more.
I have my mum to thank for my introduction to the eagles. She’s not a massive fan or anything but she got me this CD called “The Best Air Guitar Anthems Ever” when I was a kid and learning to play the guitar. She saw it advertised on TV and one of their marketing tactics
I first discovered these guys when iTunes gave away Mansard Roof as the free single of the week (Remember when they used to do that?). I was instantly hooked, the pop sensibility merged with the afro rhythms and obvious Paul Simon influence made them a perfect fit for me. A perfect album for a road
Damien Rice showcases a mastery of the simplicity on this album. Most songs feature Damien, his guitar, a brush drum kit, and an upright bass. String sections float overtop here and there, and vocalist Lisa Hannigan joins in for a few songs. The instrumental ability of Damien and his studio musicians is superb, and it
Californication, in my opinion, was Red Hot Chili Peppers best effort in the studio. The songwriting is solid and soulful. The musicianship is tight and spontaneous. Anthony Kiedis has never sounded better. John Frusciante was back in the fold and his playing was sublime perfection. Flea’s bass playing is melodic, spastic and as driving as

Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution … and neither is this timeless masterpiece! AC/DC are well and truly in musical roots, some of my earliest memories are watching old VHS tapes of the likes of Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses and Meat Loaf with my old man. AC/DC was one that stood out though, the
Anyone remember Myspace?? I first discovered this band on there. Back when I was living in New Zealand we didn’t have the internet at home so I and my future wife would hit the internet cafe on the weekend. I would trail thru myspace and find as much new music as I could, download it
Arcade fire is an incredible band, There is no other way about it. This is a band that shows talent in abundance, and its evident from the very beginning. I first stumbled across them while watching a Reading + Leeds 2007 highlights show on BBC red button. I was in awe, the sun was setting,
One of my first jobs was in a breezeblock factory. It was 12-hour shifts, 4 pm – 4 am. My main task was to man a machine that stacks the blocks, so I would order the blocks in the right pattern and move them onto the pallet and so forth. It was very very boring
Without a doubt, these guys are one of the greatest bands I have seen perform live. It was just after they released this album and every song sounded massive! This was always going to be a joy to play on the ukulele as Daron Malakian guitar work is so melodic! Not sure how to read
Black Sabbath’s second album is a masterpiece. They moved away from the blues of their first album and became much darker in tone. Toni Iommi’s riffs were forged of the purest metal and I had to smelt them on my uke! Not sure how to read these tabs? Take my FREE 15-minute course and get

OK Computer is a work of art comprised of progressive music, brimming with atmosphere and depth. It comes as “No Surprise” to me that it is regularly voted as one of the greatest albums ever made. It’s one of those albums where no particular song stands out, mainly as they are all of equal strength but also because every track fits so well together. Aha Shake Heartbreak simply solidifies the thoughts among many (myself included) that the Kings Of Leon are the best rock band to have come out of America for a long, long time. It is chock-full of lively, driving numbers, awash with Caleb’s Southern, twangy drawl, Nathan’s snappy and precise drumming and Matthew and Jared’s solid

I really don’t know what I can say about Guns N Roses debut album that hasn’t been said a million times before. They erupted onto the music scene with a record that sounded so real, not polished, just pure, loud, heavy rock and roll. As a young guitarist, I dreamed of playing like Slash, and

The title of this album says it all. It’s one of those handfuls of albums that I see in just about every house that I visit. Although it’s a Greatest hits and not strictly a studio album, It’s such an amazing body of work that I consider it to be one of the greatest of
I’m really not sure how Kurt Cobain would feel about his masterpiece been played in full on a ukulele but I had to do it. Nirvana was a big middle finger to the music industry exactly when it needed it, goodbye cheesy glam and hello alternative rock. Whilst ‘alternative’ was hardly new, the attention and
I’m scared to listen to this album too much as I don’t ever want its brilliance to dim. When four unlikely working class lads from Sheffield dropped ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’, 10 years ago, it became the generation-defining debut album of the new millennium. My introduction to Fleetwood Mac came from an unlikely source. Remember in Forrest Gump just after his mum passes away and he’s sat on the porch contemplating life. He gets up and for no particular reason he decides to go for a little run, he runs out of Mississippi and across Alabama until he gets to the ocean. The
